One Arc's End...- Session 14 Reflections

This is a busy week for Time2Tabletop! We had 2 back-to-back nights of Infinity Tower and still have What Game Did You Bring? tonight!

So this reflections post is really about both games. Firstly, we never planned to have solo adventures for the PCs. There was an earlier show scheduled to accomodate Kat, who we knew couldn't make the regular game. Our special guest Kelsa was unavailable for the changed time, so we made it work for everyone.

The Aurora solo on Monday was great and almost entirely off-the-cuff. This was a great example how dice can change the narrative. I had a scene planned and was setting terrain when Kat rolled a Natural 20 on her Death Saving Throw. Then another on a skill check. Then another.

At that point, the fates were clearly with Kat and Aurora started telling us what she wanted to see happen. It was a lot of fun!

Then our usual session of Infinity Tower Tuesday. This was a simple battle where numbers seemed overwhelmingly in the players' favor (15 backup NPCs) but the situation was really controlled by status effects and field of play constraints. We had 19 people on a 15-foot-wide bridge. Most were on horseback or wagon. Only 3 of them could see in the dark and we were underground.

The party crossing the bridge, before the attack!

The initial wave of enemies could fly; the second wave cast magical darkness on the bridge.

The result was a combat in which almost all the NPCs were killed and the party was injured but mostly frustrated by the difficulty of fighting blind.

Most of the remaining session played out as the consequences of that fight. When we got to the very end, there were two arcs that were closing up.
The first was the longer arc, the party traveling to Bayer's Cross, returning to Eastkeep, making contact with the dwarves, bringing the soldiers and supplies of Bayer's Cross to Eastkeep. This has been the guiding arc of the story since Session 1.
The second was the Kelsa guest star arc, closing for now with Urist making her way in the world alongside Tauli, the Dwarven mystic from Taul'Khazad.

This has been a really cool time. Nothing's going away but I can't help being a little sentimental thinking about all the time and effort everyone has put in up to this point. Also, it's been great having Kelsa join us; for me, I'm hoping it's one more step in us sharing games and enjoying them with people everywhere.

If you got through all of this, there are a couple of additional things kicking around in my head. If you have an opinion, leave a comment or catch me on Twitter. I definitely want to hear peoples' opinions.
1. We're using the X-Card now. I put it on the table midway through the game. We talked about it briefly on the break. I want to use it in all my games. For 2 of our players, they had never heard of the technique and had difficulty imagining a scenario where we need it. I think it's great that our game is friendly and comfortable enough that they had that reaction. I put the X-Card out there because I want it to stay that way. Check it out here. There's no cost and no reason not to use it.. http://tinyurl.com/x-card-rpg
2. We at Time2Tabletop have been discussing an online currency system to reward our viewers and followers. We really appreciate people taking the time to view our shows and want them to feel appreciated.
We have a Revlo service started that will give currency to people who follow or watch. For Infinity Tower, viewers will be able to spend currency to influence the factions of the world (and the multiverse). affecting the way that they react to the players.
If you are a Team Duergar and spend some currency, watch as they pour out of the Underdark to overwhelm the dwarves of Taul'Khazad. Travel between Bayer's Cross and Eastkeep becomes more difficult and supplies are reduced.
Maybe you'd rather see the dwarves of Taul'Khazad prevail. Spend some currency on Team TK and the dwarves regain some of their strength. Some more mystics are empowered. The duergar are forced further back. Fortifications are built. The city is being reclaimed. Trade from Bayer's Cross to Eastkeep strengthens.

There will be a lot of opportunities to affect the game soon. Let me know what you think!
